Proxy Servers

With some ISPs, you are located behind a Proxy Server or ISP Cache. This means that you are not connected directly to the Internet. If you request a page that has been viewed by someone else earlier in the day, you will see that old copy of the page rather than the latest. This may save time because you don't have to go out to the Internet to retrieve the latest version, but can be very inconvenient if a site changes regularly, or if you are changing your own site. The practice saves bandwidth for the ISP, which is their main reason for doing it.

If you are having this problem with your current ISP, you can use Shift F5 on a RFC-enabled browser - Netscape or Opera, but not Internet Explorer - to force a refresh from the actual Web site server, rather than refresh simply from the ISP cache.
